Back ‘home on the range’
After a couple of months in Timmins I’m back in Waterloo County spending a 2 weeks here at my parent’s place and then moving into a house in Waterloo. Everything has been quite crazy since coming home but I’m looking forward to a summer of fun, hopefully filled with many wonderful days cycling, canoeing, fishing, picnicking, and much more. Well that’s all for now, more to come as school starts in May.
Last few days in Timmins
Thank you one and all for welcoming me and making me feel at home in Timmins. God has blessed me with wonderful people behind my wildest expectations. The people who I’ve worked with at Mushkegowuk and MCC have been very understanding regarding my lack of experience in ‘northern’ issues. They’ve taught me plenty about Aboriginal people and their culture in the North, and they were especially open to sharing to their joys and struggles with me over the last few months. During my evenings and weekends the college and career group, ya that’s all you splendid people, have been my spiritual and emotional support here in Timmins over the last few months. I praise God for how he brought me to you and how much I’ve grown in my faith during my time here. So blessings and prayers to all you great people. I can’t wait to see you all again sometime soon
Sinkhole Swallows Jon in Timmins
Well it looks like I’m staying in Timmins afterall. Yesterday my apartment was swallowed up by a large sinkhole in Timmins. You can check it out at Timmins Times So since all of my life belongings are at the bottom of a sinkhole in Timmins it looks like I’m going to stay to collect them. Currently I’m using the Timmins wireless internet service since I had my laptop in my backpack when it happened. You can also check the Timmins Daily Press report of it at Sinkhole swallows apartment Wow Timmins sure is an exciting place to live, especially the Pine Street Ghetto. Here’s some photos of Pine Street when it was beautiful.
Going back ‘down south’
Thank you for everyone who spoke their mind regarding my last blog entry. I found it all very intriguing and helpful. Some of the things I learned was that I have a fairly liberal view of women in the church(guess not too surprising), that gender balance is important, that other people have a different idea of what ‘the church’ is than me, and that discussing issues makes me read the Bible more.
As my title suggests, I have only 2 more weeks here in Timmins. As I was walking home the other day I thought about how I haven’t been ‘home’ for over 3 months. Previously my longest time away from home was 5 weeks. Yet as I walked home from work I thought “well after 3 months of being here and getting to know some good friends Timmins almost feels like home”. After considering that Timmins is somewhat home, it didn’t feel in my mind that 3 months was a long time to be away from home. Probably more than missing home I’ve missed Darlene and my other friends from back home. But Darlene has visisted twice and is coming for Easter this weekend and my other closest friends from Waterloo were up this past weekend! So I’ve really been blessed by meeting everyone up here and for having Darlene and others visit from ‘down south’ (wow, never thought I’d use that term before I came to Timmins).
