Is it possible to run too much? Apparently it is…
Well, even though I run a lot less than some people, apparently I have been running enough to create what is commonly called the IT Band injury. The injury comes from out of balance leg muscles and too much hill running. Nose Hill in Calgary has become my favourite running location and as it’s name suggests it’s a huge hill and I love running and up and down it. Internet literature on this subject suggests that my addiction to hill running might be one of the causes of this injury. One of the typical treatments is trying to relax the outer leg muscles using a foam roller. So I went and purchased a foam roller and now I’m trying to roll away my injury. In case you’re worried about my self-treatment via internet forums and websites I have a physiotherapy appointment in a few days to confirm my suspicions. But my visit will keep in mind this website: http://sportscenteraustin.blogs.com/the_view/2006/03/knee_pain_and_s.htm that suggests that some physiotherapists can provide harmful treatments to this injury and might not be as helpful as expected. So, until then I’ll keep on rolling and take it easy on the running.
